I’m an introvert

This summer, after a trip to the public pool and the grocery store, my Overland group returned to our campsite in Hveragerdi. As all good leaders do when they’re tired, I immediately laid across the top of the picnic table in full starfish mode, turned on Taylor Swift’s “Lover,” and closed my eyes. One of the campers tried to talk to me and another camper, Zach, goes, “dog is taking a time out.” Zach, you’re the goat (greatest of all time). Anyway, I’m currently sitting next to the lake after a long day at work, and I feel (in a great way) like I’m in a similar state. Dog is taking a time out. Except this time there aren’t 10 teenagers playing a rowdy game of cards around me and I’m not in Iceland. Huge improvement.

This week, I started work at this cafe/corner store, and I’m comically horrible at it. I would say my accuracy percentage with taking orders is a solid 50%. Which, I feel like in terms of life in general, maybe isn’t that bad. But in terms of getting food and drinks right, it’s not great. I’ll be honest. Like imagine every other time you order a coffee it’s wrong and your cheese roll never comes. Maybe people just need to shift their expectations.

As the title for this post suggests, I’m unfortunately not up for much chitter chatter at the moment. Instead, here is a photo journal with relatively mundane photos that’s pretty light on the journaling side of things too. Enjoy!!!!! Oh also I’m going to play pickup soccer this week and I’m SO excited. Ah, the beautiful game.

Beaut of a run
A handsome horsie I found on the run
The dinner that may or may not have given me a horrid bout of food poisoning. A woat experience, for sure (worst of all time)
A crazy cloud
Another crazy cloud
Massive glacier at mount cook/Aoraki national park (before I became deceased). I was geeking!!!
My friend Dani! She’s Canadian eh
A valley carved by said glaciers. That’s pretty wild to think about. The visitor center did a fabulous job of explaining. 10/10
Icebergs in a very chilly lake
A climbing crag back in Wanaka. I’ve actually been climbing a lot here since people are out every day and it’s light until 9pm. Super nice people and I’m excited to learn more!! Frickin gorgeous green valleys with cliffs like these just dotting the hillsides.
If you shake the computer screen enough, this could be me on a sick overhang climb. If you keep it still, it might look like a 6’4” Spanish man who’s far better at climbing than me. Could go either way. Who’s to say, really
The view from Mt. Iron which is this little hill right in the middle of town. It ROCKS and is so easy to just go run in after work! I’m jazzed about it
Between my dislike for pickles and the taste of beer, this is my worst nightmare
I put no pepper in this. That’s just dirt.
More clouds! But actually the greatness of this photo is that it includes 3 separate people who are all brushing their teeth while looking at the clouds. I thought that was pretty cute.
My picture of inventory to restock the milk fridge. Now half my camera roll
Brings me to right now. Enjoying this earl grey kombucha next to the lake. It’s my new favorite drink. Absolutely fantastic! Feel free to inquire about the flavor profile.

That’s it for me, folks! I’m not quite sure where this blog will go now that I’m settling into a bit more of a typical life here. I’m sure there will still be much to share, but perhaps that feels a bit weird just to write about my day-to-day life. We shall see!

Hope you’re having a good day 🙂

Cheers,

Jaquelin

P.S. please send me photos of snow because I’m desperately missing winter!

  1. Sounds rough! Do you write down the orders, or keep them in your head? How do you handle the nearly 50% mistaken orders?

    1. Rough for the customers! The “it’s my first day” excuse only works for so many days…
